Cardiovascular Complaints

Cardiovascular complaints describe a number of conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels including:

  • Blood clotting and other heart or blood vessel diseases
  • Cerebrovascular disease (including stroke)
  • Heart attack and angina
  • High blood pressure

runCardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Australia. Exercise benefits people with cardiovascular complaints by:

  • Improving physiological function
  • Reducing cardiovascular symptoms
  • Improving capacity and quality of life
  • Reducing mortality and increasing fitness

Becoming more active reduces the risk of cardiovascular complaints. Exercise doesn’t have to be vigorous to achieve health benefits. The Heart Foundation recommends low to moderate intensity exercise for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.
